Sunflower Bean Interview

Written by on 30th November 2018

When the opportunity arose for me to interview the American trio “Sunflower Bean” I had to jump at the chance, so I sat down with Nick and Jacob from the band before their show in Glasgow to talk about their latest UK tour, their new single and somehow Buckfast?

AF – Thanks for taking the time to talk to me today! So you guys are about to kick off your UK Tour and will stop by Glasgow in just over a week, are you all excited about this upcoming tour?

Jacob – Yeah!

Nick- Yeah we always love Glasgow, we love playing there.

AF – Just over a year ago you were all on tour with Wolf Alice and played two sold out nights in the legendary Barrowland Ballroom, what was that experience like?

Jacob – Yeah that was pretty great it was such a cool venue

Nick – Yeah it was great, we did two nights there so we got to leave all our gear there and get to see the city a little bit. We have a few friends in Glasgow so one of them took us around and showed us a bunch of charity shops he goes to and a bunch of thrift stores and things like that. Wolf Alice introduced to your famous wine that’s made by monks?

AF- Oh buckfast!

Nick – Yeah buckfast! We also went to Nice and Sleazys a bit I know that’s a pretty popular spot to go to after shows

AF – A few weeks ago you released a single titled “Come For Me”, How did this song come about?

Jacob – The song came about we went to LA in July and August just to like meet with Justin Raisen who produced the track and there was no goal in mind really we just like “Let’s just try writing some stuff and recording some stuff and see what comes of it”.

Nick – Yeah we were on tour and we just happened to go to his studio and hang out with him and we sorta got along so well that the next week we emailed back and forth and we were like “Hey maybe we should come out this summer and try and do something”. Just because we wanted to try making music with a different producer because we worked with the same producer on the first two records and we went out for a week and we did some writing and we came back in August and banged out an EP in a week with him. It was a lot of fun just in his garage, a real garage record!

Sunflower Bean round off their UK Tour with two more shows in London and Birmingham on the 30thof November and 1stof December respectively. Their latest record “TwentyTwo in Blue” as well as their latest single “Come for Me” are available digitally on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify and physically at . Their new EP “King of The Dudes” will be released on January 25th2019.
