Scottish singer Tom Walker has exploded onto the UK Charts this week with his debut album smashing the competition and jumping straight to number one. Released on March 1st, “What a Time to Be Alive” is made up of 10 songs and includes the hugely popular “Leave a Light On”, which previously reached number 7 in the UK Singles chart and was recently re-released as an updated version with backup from the red hot chilli pipers.
The 27 year old singer, who won the British Breakthrough Artist award at the BRITS, beat music legend Bryan Adams and the ever-popular Ariana Grande to the top spot with a total of 37,000 combined sales, with 64% of those coming from physical sales copies.
When receiving the award from the OfficialCharts.com, Walker said “ To everybody who has bought, supported and just been absolutely lovely about this record, who have come to the shows and been there since day one, here we are. Thank you so, so much. Thank you for the support. This is next level!”.
Along with Walker, the unfortunate death of The Prodigy’s Keith Flint has also had a massive impact on the current charts, with three of the band’s albums taking their place in a top 40 spot.
